Restaurants:
For a small town on the edge of London, Purley is hugely cosmopolitan. Las Fuentes is an authentic Spanish tapas bar, great for groups and family, and so popular people can be seen queuing outside it. Buenos Aires offers a flavour of South America with its exquisite steak-based meals, offering cuts from Pampas grass-fed cattle, cooked on a parrilla (Argentine barbecue).
Another Argentine-influenced eaterie is Speroni, owned by Crystal Palace FC goalkeeper Julian Speroni. The Eagles’ legend’s restaurant has the tagline “Fusion Food. Traditional Meets Modern” and offers such dishes as Chicken Speroni (bacon wrapped and stuffed with spinach, Brie and mushroom).
Dexter Burger (which uses 100% grass-fed beef) has brought Soho dining to the edge of London and offers a new concept in food –high quality fast dining – as well as furniture, using old school chairs and tables built from scaffolding boards.
If you prefer something lighter, then Purley has some lovely little independent coffee shops. Lupita opens for breakfast and lunch, serving delights such as stuffed peppers and gluten-free almond cake while Café Blue offers an alternative to Costa (in the town and in Tesco) by offering fresh food such as lasagne and burgers.
