The Mayor of Croydon congratulates Streets Ahead for a “quarter century of service” to the borough at sparkling 25th anniversary party
Streets Ahead Estate Agents was praised by the Mayor of Croydon for “a quarter of a century of service” at a special party to celebrate our 25th Anniversary.
Mayor Manju Shahul-Hameed was guest of honour at the sparkling event in the Streets Ahead flagship office in Croydon High Street on Thursday night.
In her speech the Mayor commended the Croydon estate agent’s directors Bob Hay and Gary O’Hare, and their staff, for their commitment to the borough, and for providing local jobs and supporting local charities.

“It is very important that, as Mayor, I support local jobs and local people, like Streets Ahead who employ nearly 100 local people across six offices.”
She also praised Streets Ahead for not only helping local people buy, sell and let their homes, but also for the firm’s charity work, which includes supporting the Nightwatch homeless charity in Croydon. Set up 25 years ago by Managing Director Bob Hay and Director Gary O’Hare, Streets Ahead has grown to be a multi-award winning estate agency, specialising in sales, lettings, new homes, commercial, corporate lets and property management across south east London and Surrey.
Clients Terry and Tracy Buckingham and daughter Elena, 7 – they first bought through Streets Ahead 25 years ago – with directors Gary O’Hare and Bob Hay. The couple were presented with a bouquet and champagne.
“It’s hard to believe that we started 25 years ago with a business plan for just two years – and now we are here!” Bob Hay told a gathering of distinguished invited guests, who included clients who bought through the company when they first started.
Among them was Terry Buckingham and his wife Tracy, who have been clients since the start, buying their first home through Streets Ahead.
“Streets Ahead are a great company, really friendly and professional – nothing is too much trouble for them, which is why we go back to them all the time,” said Terry, who now lives Norwood.
Managing Director Bob Hay with son Lewis and daughter Hollie who now work in the company he founded with Director Gary O’Hare in 1990.
Among the staff attending was Marina Steel, who has been with Streets Ahead from the start. She was there with her mother Rita Ward – X Factor winner Ben Haenow’s famous gran! – who is also a long term friend of the firm.
“They are all wonderful people – my daughter loves her job here,” said Rita.
The estate agents have launched the Streets Ahead Foundation to support local charities as part of their 25th Anniversary celebrations. Their target is to raise £20,000 in the coming year, with staff also committing to personally raise £250 each for the Foundation. Part of their fundraising includes participating in the Streets Ahead Croydon Half Marathon.
